Alex Murdaugh arrived at Hampton County jail Thursday morning where he was slapped with charges for paying a hitman to kill him as part of a botched insurance fraud scheme - three months after the unsolved double-murder of his wife and son. The high-powered South Carolina attorney, 53, was filmed being driven to the jail in a pewter-colored SUV accompanied by a police escort after he agreed to surrender to authorities. He emerged from the vehicle sporting bright red sneakers, gray trousers and a light-colored shirt. Murdaugh was arrested and charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and filing a false police report and was booked at the Hampton County Detention Center.

Brian Laundrie's sister Cassie (pictured) is the first Launderie family member to speak out after the disappearance of her brother's girlfriend Gabby Petito. In her interview with ABC News she said: 'Obviously me and my family want Gabby to be found safe. All I want is for her to come home safe and sound and this to be just a big misunderstanding.' She spoke out after Launderie was named a person of interest in the disappearance and Petito's family asked the Launderies for help finding Gabby. Petito was last seen on August 24 with Laundrie in Salt Lake City, Utah, during the couple's cross-country campervan trip which they started early July.

North Port police chief Todd Garrison (inset) expressed his continued frustration that Laundrie not coming forward to help solve the mystery of Gabby's disappearance.

A Chicago gang has been terrorizing Wicker Park locals with paintball guns, shooting Taylor Mogged (pictured top right) as she walked her dog, a woman sleeping on a bench, diners at a sushi restaurant (pictured left) and two groups of pedestrians walking along sidewalks. 'It makes it kind of crazy that it's 2021, as if there's not enough going on,' one neighbor told NBC. 'I could be on a peaceful walk, and someone can shoot a paintball at me. That's pretty scary.'

Thousands of migrants continue to converge in a makeshift camp under the bridge that connects Del Rio, Texas and Mexico's Ciudad Acuña, in the latest border emergency and humanitarian crisis facing US President Joe Biden. The camp had swelled to some 10,000 migrants on Thursday, with thousands seen wading across the Rio Grande River daily. Most are Haitians, with some Cubans, Venezuelans and Nicaraguans also present.  Amid the surge of the highly infectious Delta variant, the crowded conditions of the camp also raised concerns about the possibility of COVID-19 outbreaks endangering the health of the migrants.

The unnamed woman, branded a 'Karen' after the cellphone footage went viral, was filmed pushing, throwing things at and spraying cleaning spray at a female employee at Market Broiler in Huntington Beach, California. Despite not wearing a mask herself, the Karen attacks the restaurant supervisor, demanding to see her vaccination card and bragging that she herself didn't need to wear one because 'I'm vaccinated b****!' The nearly seven minute-long video begins with the already hysterical customer screaming in the face of the staff member that she  'doesn't know what it feels like' to be discriminated against'.

A non-profit found 8 additional miles of the Mammoth Cave. The team has been exploring the structure for the past 60 years and found nearly 400 miles of passageways. The 10-million-year-old cave was first discovered in in the late 1790s by a team of pioneers, but humans have used the massive structure for about 5,000 years.

Thirteen cats were killed when a fire broke out at an Orlando animal shelter. Orange County Fire Rescue found flames 'through the roof' when they arrived at the shelter. Rescue crews were able to safely evacuate all 26 dogs at the center, as they were further away from the fire's point of origin. Forty-five cats were rescued and four remain missing.

A US judge said Virginia Giuffre's (right) plan to deliver papers to his US lawyer was 'reasonably calculated to bring the papers served to the defendant's attention'. District Judge Lewis Kaplan (inset) in Manhattan said  it did not matter whether the Duke of York (left, this week at Balmoral) 'authorized' the lawyer to accept them. The lawyer, Andrew Brettler, had no immediate comment and Ms Giuffre's lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Earlier the Prince had challenged a High Court ruling that he can be served with papers in his US sex case. In what was being seen as another delaying tactic by the duke, his legal team said it would look to overturn the decision on a legal technicality. It comes as the Prince's mood has reportedly changed over the past few days and he has become 'worried' and is 'not his usual blasé self'. He is said to be readying himself for a brutal legal battle that he fears could cost him millions of pounds.

New York City is known for its tight living quarters, but at just 9-feet and six-inches wide, this historic residence is Manhattan's narrowest home - and it's now on the market for a whopping $4.9 million. While the townhome is notoriously narrow, it is definitely not one of New York's smallest homes. This sparked a rescue operation that led to the discovery of three of the survivors on an improvised lifeboat and their transfer to hospital.

Melissa Breyer, a volunteer at NYC Audubon, picked up 291 dead birds outside of the World Trade Center towers on Tuesday. More birds are moving south as migration season starts. Glass buildings, like the WTC, confuse birds who get disoriented from the lights, causing them to crash fatally into the buildings. One WTC already has glass fins on the first 200-feet of the building to curb deaths. Three, Four, and Seven have encouraged employees to limit lights at night and the other towers are installing special glass.

Shannon Heroux, 32, from California, shared her story on her @shannon_heroux TikTok account, where her videos about the alleged incident have gone viral. This is the moment a woman who is 10 weeks pregnant attempts to jump from a second-floor window to escape the alleged beating inflicted by her husband before he pulled her back into their apartment in Brazil. A mother has claimed another woman verbally abused her daughter who was innocently feeding geese in a Sydney park before allegedly calling police because she 'feared for her life'.   The mother of the child posted a warning to other families in the Bondi Local Loop Facebook page on Friday, describing the aggressive interaction alongside an image of the supposed 'park Karen' who had brought her daughter to tears.    'If you are in Centennial Park with your children, watch out for this woman,' the mother wrote online.

A hospital mix up in Mazara del Vallo in Sicily meant that Caterina Alagna and Melissa Fodera (pictured left as children and right, now), both 23, were raised by the wrong mothers until the age of three. As the man checked his phone while waiting for his friend to come to the door, his pet, which was on an extendable lead, decided to run at speed after a pair of other dogs.
